COMDANCE SCHEDULE!

How Competitions Work!

For some families this will be your first experience of a dance competition so we wanted to make sure we provide all the information you need to make it as easy as possible.

The timetable for the competition will be released before the festival and we will post on this page for all families, however all SOLO students are responsible to find the times for their own solo category. This will be easy to find within the program ordered when you registered.

In preparation for the comp it is important to be organised and make sure you and your dancer has everything needed for each dance.

IMPORTANT REMINDERS!

  • COMMUNICATION: During comps if we need to communicate with families it will be via the Joanne O'Kelly Dancers Facebook Group. Please keep checking this regularly for any updates throughout the festival.
  • ARRIVAL TIMES: You MUST arrive at least 1-2 HOURS before the performance time for SOLOS and 1.5 HOURS before TROUPE performances
    • This is to ensure your dancer has adequate warm up time and opportunity to get into their costumes
    • Make note of the INFORMATION DOC arrival times
  • ARRIVE READY: Arrive at the theatre with ALL hair and make-up COMPLETE for your first item including eyelashes!
  • CHECKLIST: Ensure you have EVERYTHING in our checklist below as well as all costume items.
  • BALLET RIBBONS:
    • WE WILL CONFIRM DANCES THAT NEED BALLET RIBBONS ASAP - SEE TUTORIAL BELOW!
    • IF this is your first troupe of the day then please ARRIVE with your ballet shoes on and ribbons tied and sewn ready so that we can go straight into rehearsals.
  • UNDERWEAR: Please make sure you have the appropriate underwear for your costumes. Nude undies or no undies are best. Bra straps should be clear and hidden.
  • JOKSOD UNIFORM: Must be worn at all times when out of costume. Even if you are only coming to watch performances please support your studio and wear the leggings, t-shirts, jumpers and jackets.
  • DROP OFF AND PICK UP: No parents are allowed to stay in the dressing rooms, you must drop your child with us and leave. We have plenty of parent helpers and seniors who will be helping your child get ready for troupes.
  • SOLO PARENTS: YOU are responsible for getting your child ready for their solo performances and arriving on time.
  • PARKING: Parking is available at the theatre and the streets around the venue.
  • WARM UPS: We ask that ALL students please take your warm up seriously, we know everyone will be excited. It is your dancers responsibility to do their classical ballet barre warm up prior to going on stage for every dance.
  • WATCHING: We encourage all dancers to support JOKSOD and watch as much of the festival as you can. Please make sure you are respectful during the performances as you are representing our dance school!
